Thanks to the smartybrains over at Transgaming, the crew behind Eve Online was able to wrap up their existing code base in a clever WINE-based wrapper to allow for native play of this fun little title on platforms other than Windows. Thank heavens! Booting down into XP on my Macbook Pro is kind of a nuisance.
Oh, earlier when I said City of Heroes was one of the games that could get me to fall off the MMO bandwagon? Eve Online is another one.
The graphics are everything a space opera should have, the combat is really rather fun, and it’s overall a good game. Sometimes the interface is annoying, but I’m over it. I’ve long held that EVE Online is a spiritual successor to one of the best Mac games of all time, Escape Velocity, and now I can get my space opera on natively with my Intel Mac.
I can already feel the time slipping away. Yes, I’m downloading it as I type this.
