startrek.jpgTrekMovie.com reports that Perpetual is looking to transfer development of the upcoming Star Trek MMO. Apparently, failed financing has created a situation where Perpetual can no longer handle the job, and talks are currently underway to transfer it (not sell it). Warcry.com states that it’s already being moved to another Bay area developer, but no names have been dropped. There is some reason to believe that Cryptic will play a role in the unfolding drama:

TrekMovie.com has confirmed that Cryptic Studios, the company behind the award-winning MMORPGs “City of Heroes” and “City of Villains” is currently interviewing members of the Perpetual team. However, Cryptic would not confirm if they are involved with discussions to pick up the game assets or Star Trek license as well. Cryptic is currently working on another licensed MMORPG, “Marvel Universe Online” as well as other games and may just be looking to pick up some newly available talent.

No word on if the hats in the accompanying photo will play a role or not.
