wow2.jpgLike I always say: The day isn’t done until you post a story about World of Warcraft (no, I really do say that). This time around I’d like to direct your attention to this story on Game Politics which explains the trouble journey of a “bot” creator named Michael Donnelly who fell into Blizzard’s bad graces and has found himself in court. A “bot” is a bit of software that can be used in-game to cheat or otherwise give yourself a fair advantage that other players don’t have… a real no-no when the game itself depends on all players having something of an equivalent balance in the World of Warcraft experience and economic system.

Last week, both sides filed new motions in U.S. District Court for summary judgment, essentially seeking to have themselves declared victorious without having to go through a trial.

We note that in its motion, Blizzard claims that Donnelly sold $2.8 million worth of Glider. That’s a lot of bots. For the legal-minded, here is Blizzard’s motion and here is Donnelly’s.

Both those motions are linked at Game Politics. If you’re interested in checking out what happens when you cross a game mega-publisher like Blizzard, head over and take a look.
