Another free indie gem called Stranded II, from German developer Unreal Software. You wash up on a deserted island and have to survive by building shelter, hunting food, and managing your water supply. The game has a ton of items scattered around the island, which can be combined to create new items — for instance, by combining a branch with a rock you can make a hammer, which you can then use to build structures or work with iron. By then combing your hammer with a branch and a piece of iron, you can make stronger tools like an axe, which you can then use to… well, you get the idea. Plus, it has an adventure mode with goals and multiple islands, as well as a random island generator for replayability. If that’s not enough, the game is very moddable and there’s an active community — in both English and German — working on mods. Again, it’s completely free so give it a whirl if you get a chance.
Oh yeah, and it has the cutest little crabs I’ve ever seen.
