Video games reduce stress… duh

…but not, you know, real video games. Casual games. A new study from PopCap Games says, rather unsurprisingly, that playing casual games can increase mood and reduce stress. I become enraged (no, seriously, ENRAGED) when I see stories like this. In the first place, pretty much everyone already knew this, and if they didn’t they’ve never played a video game before. Certainly I’ve beaten up my little brother over a game of Mortal Kombat, but sitting down to a game of Bejeweled or Solitaire will obviously calm anyone down. Secondly, who in their right mind is going to trust a study funded by the very people who the results most benefit?
